Social and Entertainment

Bears Christchurch is a group dedicated to celebrating gay men, their friends and admirers who like their men beary, hairy, chubby, stocky, or just a bit rough around the edges. Internationally the Bear Community is known for embracing a wide range of body types and attitudes beyond the stereotypical view of gay men. All shapes and sizes are welcome, and we are very inclusive. We also organise monthly events.

Veggie Puffs GLBT Vegan/Vegetarian Dining Group.

Veggie Puffs – a vegan/vegetarian dining group for the GLBT community meeting since 2002. We meet every 6-8 weeks in Chch restaurants to eat great vegetarian food and chat. Meals are usually at a cheapish restaurant (under $20 for a main) – pay only for what you order. Queer operated.

We’re a friendly bunch of mostly mature people who meet every second Friday night to have a co ee and chat. We are open, inclusive, caring and affirming to people of all gender and sexual identities. We’d like to share the load of anyone’s coming out journey.
Feel free to post questions, options of venues we could meet at, and anything else you feel you’d like to share.

The UpRising Trust was established after the February 2011 Earthquake to help facilitate the rebuild of the Rainbow Communities of Christchurch. It’s primary purposes (from
the Trust deed) are to promote and advance the wellness, welfare, wellbeing, education, leadership, and social cohesion of Rainbow Communities; and to provide a hub of information relevant to Rainbow Communities and Rainbow People of Canterbury. The Trust encourages the Rainbow communities to come together and to take control of their own future. In its rst 6 months the Trust organised fundraising and community events and donated over $5,000 to Rainbow Community groups. The Uprising Trust will continue these and will undertake a needs assessment and will develop further projects from there. Volunteers are welcome to register an interest in helping run events and other projects.
